About Hand in Hand
for Development

Hand In Hand for Development (HIHD) is a Rwandan Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) founded in 2012, with the mission to improve the well-being of vulnerable communities, including women, youth, people with disabilities, and economically disadvantaged households. Based in Rubavu district in the Western Province of Rwanda, HIHD is committed to fostering sustainable development and social empowerment through various programs that target key sectors such as agro-ecology, economic empowerment, WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene), and environmental protection.

Mission

Hand in Hand for Development partners with vulnerable and marginalized communities in Rwanda, focusing on their social, economic, and environmental development. We advocate for the rights of those we serve and work towards improving living conditions through sustainable initiatives, empowering each community member to harness their inherent strength and agency.

Vision

Our vision is a future where every community has equal access to employment, education, and healthcare, enabling individuals to realize their full potential and contribute meaningfully to society. Together, we aim to build a world where every person plays an active role in shaping an equitable and thriving future.

HIHD overall goal is to empower of PWDs/PWA through advocacy, capacity building, community awareness-raising and social- economic empowerment to ensure improved and sustainable livelihoods.

To achieve the overall
goal HIHD’s strategic objectives are:

To increase advocacy platforms for PWDs/PWA through human rights and access to justice especially legal aid

To combat societal stigma and discrimination targeting PWDs/PWA

To Institutionalize HIHD at national level and strengthen HIHD organizational structure

To improve the livelihoods of PWDs/ PWA, vulnerable women, teen mothers, children (especially, Children with Albinism)

To improve the health for Women, PWDs /PWA and children through strengthening WASH, mental health, proper nutrition, sexual reproductive health and environmental protection/climate change initiatives
